Action on Disability announces new chief executive

Action on Disability has announced that David Buxton will replace Kamran Mallick as chief executive.

David is starting this week after leaving his role as Director of Public Affairs at the British Deaf Association. He has previously worked for Scope and as a Senior Commissioning Manager for the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham.

Commenting on his appointment, David said:

“I am really pleased to be joining Action on Disability. I have long known the charity and I am honoured to accept the post of Chief Executive. I look forward to working collaboratively with the Board, staff and volunteers, and key external partners and funders, to continue to deliver innovative disability services across West and central London, in what are undoubtedly challenging times, with cuts to local authority budgets.”

AoD Chair, Victoria Brignell, added:

“I’m delighted to welcome David as AoD’s new CEO. David comes to the organisation with a strong track record of leadership in disabled people’s-led organisations and has a passionate commitment to the social model of disability – the idea that people are disabled not by their impairment but by other people’s attitudes and the way society is organised. I and the rest of the trustees look forward to working with him. Kamran Mallick has left a remarkable legacy of achievement at AoD and I’m sure David will build on this in the years ahead.”
